Bootlegger Picnic Area

This hidden gem is right up the road from Slide Rock and such a great spot for an outdoor day. The water is clear and it's not a far walk from the parking lot. There is a large swimming hole where the majority of people hang out but if you walk up the creek a little bit you can find a secluded spot. Check out our full vlog of this spot on a Sedona day trip HERE

  • $5 Parking - buy a pass in the parking lot

  • Bathrooms in parking lot

  • It's a rocky shoreline, so no strollers or wheelchairs will make it down.

  • You can fish, jump in, swim, lay out, bring a cooler and hang for the whole day. Make sure to bring your own floats and life vests for kids.

Crescent Moon Ranch

This has been one of our go-to spots in Sedona for years. We always take guests here when they are visiting. Also known as Buddha Beach, and Red Rock Crossing but set your GPS to Crescent Moon Ranch and it will take you here. There are multiple areas to swim and hang out by the water that do not include a long hike to get there.

  • $12 per car entrance

  • Amazing views and photo backdrops of Cathedral Rock

  • 1 mile hiking trail that is stroller friendly

  • Lots of picnic areas

  • Bathrooms in parking lot

Grasshopper Point

Also right up the road from Slide Rock - Grasshopper Point is such an amazing spot. I suggest getting there early when they open because this parking lot is very limited, but so worth it. If you're looking for cliff jumping, this is definitely you're spot. It's very rocky to get to the water but it's only about 3 minutes from the parking lot.

  • $12 Parking per car

  • Picnic Area

  • Bathrooms in parking lot

Tips

Sedona is definitely a day trip from the Phoenix area, and these are all great spots to escape the valley heat because Sedona is a little cooler. Make sure to bring your own floats and everything you will need - towels, sunscreen, life vests for children, and garbage bags! These are nature spots not community pools, there's no janitor coming in after you so pack everything out. If you do want to spend the night, this is a really great hotel option. It's spacious, newly renovated, INCLUDES BREAKFAST (such a win with kids), and has great amenities including pool, hot tub, steam room, cold plunge and it's even walking distance to some restaurants and shops: Southwest Inn Sedona Be prepared: The best non-inflatable float for babies Make sure to wear good water shoes - these kids ones are only $14 - Amazon
