3 Kid-Friendly Easy Trails in Sedona, Arizona

We love traveling to Sedona with our kids and exploring new trails. It is one of the best places for really short trails with epic views. Here are 3 of our favorites!

Raven Caves Trail

I was actually shocked when we found this trail randomly on AllTrails, I had not seen any videos of it and it's such a short trail but awesome adventure.

  • Parking is free but it is very limited! Do not park on the side of the highway if the parking is full. It's not a long trail just wait for someone to come out or find somewhere else to go.

  • The caves are only .5 miles from the parking lot. There is a little bit of rock scrambling to get down. The caves do get very narrow at times. If you have small toddlers I'd recommend wearing them, holding them or their hand while exploring. Our baby was 1 and our son was 5 when we went, and our 5 year old did great. He's at the age where he is cautious and doesn't necessarily run off.

  • After you explore the caves, keep going down the trail to Oak Creek. This is one of the only spots on Oak Creek we have found where we could play in the water and be totally secluded.

  • There are no bathrooms.

  • PACK OUT YOUR TRASH. No one is coming behind you to clean up.

  • DO NOT CARVE IN THE CAVES.

Boynton Canyon Vortex Trail

This is by far one of my favorite trails we've ever done. This is the only vortex energy trail where I could feel the difference in energy. It was incredible, and so easy that even our 1 year old did it by himself without being in his carrier at all. This trail leads to the Kachina Woman, the rock spire in the photo above. She is a powerful protector and the energy is a strong feminine energy.

  • This trail is part of a longer trail so make sure to download AllTrails, you will be taking a right where the sign says "Vista". so you will not do the whole long Boynton Canyon Trail, but just the vista overlook trail.

  • It was 1.3 miles out and back, very little elevation gain at the end.

  • There are places for the kids to play on the rocks at the overview which made it fun and let us hang out and chill for awhile, just soaking in the energy.

  • There are bathrooms in the parking lot.

  • You can pay for parking at the kiosk in the parking lot.

  • The parking lot was full when we went, so my husband dropped us off to wait at the trailhead and he went to find parking on the side of the road somewhere.

Seven Sacred Pools Via Soldier Pass

This trail is incredible! I had a hard time when I was looking online finding all of the information I wanted for this trail so I hope I include everything to make it really easy for you.

  • The trail is only 1 mile out and back.

  • The parking lot is limited (it was actually closed when we were there) so you have two options: take a free Sedona shuttle to the trailhead OR you can do what we did and park at the dog park about a mile up the road. Yes, this added on a mile to our hike but it wasn't bad.

  • There are bathrooms at the parking lot

  • Navigate on AllTrails so you don't go off on another trail.

  • You will see the Devil's Kitchen Sink (sinkhole) about .3 miles into the hike. Take a minute to soak this in and read about it, it's so cool!

  • Keep going and you'll reach the Seven Sacred Pools. The views the entire trail are amazing. This is such a busy trail but we went in December on a Friday around sunset and somehow had the spot almost to ourselves. I would love to go back and see it during sunrise when the sun is coming from the opposite way for better lighting for pictures.

    Tips

There's not very many trails in Sedona that are going to be stroller friendly, here is a link to our two favorite baby carriers, a soft and a hard carrier - ShopMY

Sedona is easily a day trip from the Phoenix valley, we do it all the time. However if you do want to spend the night we have personally stayed at these hotels and highly recommend them: Southwest Inn Sedona - breakfast is included, free cancellation and it has great amenities including a pool, hot tub, cold plunge, steam room, and views from the balconies.

Hyatt Vacation Club at Pinon Pointe - They have very spacious villas, gorgeous resort with all the amenities, and located right in Uptown. It was amazing to walk everywhere in uptown and not deal with the traffic. Plus, the views here are to die for.
